Sometimes it is hard to believe that such private “beasts” from other destinations can appear in the heart of Mar del Plata, the kind that can only be seen on television. true sea monsters that they are closer to the coast than one supposes. This is the case of the mutt, a species that day by day gains fans and followers of catching fishing due to the enormous battle they offer.
Although they come out all over the seafront, with good ports such as the Escollera Sur, it is the famous Playa Popular that registers the bigger. And that has to do directly with the pier of the Mar del Plata Fishing Club. A typical postcard of the city, it divides that beach with Punta Iglesia, another of the area’s great fishing boats, and offers its members the chance to gut the day’s results on the spot. This data is central to the fishing in question: huge stingrays and stingrays come to the pool area to obtain food. Many times hook in between.
before that possibility, several members of the club choose to drop the tackle on one of the sides and wait for the start of the rod. Other canoe fans try the beach, once the lifeguards are no longer there or out of summer season, although with less luck. But they know that the dogs are there and it is a matter of tempting them to be able to enjoy a unique fight.
In the last few hours, one of the most captured captures appeared significant, close to 60 kilograms of weight. Gabriel Urdiales, a member of the club and a fan of the species, had a tough battle that lasted almost two hours. Because it is not a question of nailing and simply bringing in, but of a “negotiation” where the fish and the fisherman, from time to time, give way and then impose conditions. In short, the skill of the cannonballer will end up sanctioning the result: if he manages to tire him out enough, he will be able to get him out. If he intends to beat him by force, it is a guaranteed cut and victory for the “finch”.
On this occasion, the rig consisted of two hooks on the same branch, number 7/0 or 8/0, reinforced with 0.90 mm nylon. All attached to a large rotary reel and a rod type rod, fiber. A classic. And the bait, as fresh as possible. To such an extent that Urdiales tied up a huge stoner that minutes before had been caught from the pier itself, practically alive. According to witnesses, the cane took just 15 minutes to start. From then on, everything is story told.
After the fight came the crucial moment: how to get it out of the water. Due to the height of the pier and the impossibility of having such a large codend to lift it, the only option left is the beach. The task becomes a kind of obstacle course, where several colleagues must go passing the cane through places that have, among other things, piles, walls and even bars, going through all the nooks and crannies of the Club’s south bank. Finally, the exit to the public space and subsequent descent to the beach for the closing exercise.
A true odyssey where adrenaline registers very high levels and tests the physical and mental strength of the fisherman. Although sometimes there are several cuts and the fight is lost, the long-awaited trophy that remains finally arrives immortalized in a photo or video image, with the satisfaction of the fight and subsequent return of the catch to its natural habitat. But, above all, with the illusion of the fan to relive such an extreme encounter, as soon as possible.
